I just wanted to share this article. I, for one, am very observant of Lora Kate for signs of diabetes since I'm Type 1. I think it's important if you have little ones to be aware of the signs and symptoms of Type I. Until my diagnosis at the age of 13 no one in my family on either side had any form of diabetes. If you have any form of diabetes on either side (Type 1 or Type 2) your child is at even more of an increased risk of developing diabetes. Sometimes Type I skips a generation and I see this all the time. I just wanted to pass this along bec/ there are so many drugs in the making right now that can help preserve the function of the Beta cells (insulin producing cells in the pancreas) when/if a child is diagnosed with Type I. The earlier the diabetes is detected the more likely these drugs are to work for the child.
While I hope NONE of our children are effected by diabetes I wanted to send this out and encourage you all to know the signs and symptoms of a diabetes development!
